PHOTOS of POMPEII, ITALY
as captured by John Plested
Pompeii was considerably larger than I imagined
and they have now
stopped excavating any further ruins because
if they do it means they
have more to preserve and maintain and it
already is more than they can handle. Thousands of people everywhere which made
photos of individual items
difficult. A couple of shots are taken from
a moving bus.!!
One particular point of interest is that
even back then they had
pedestrian crossings for the main roads.
If it poured with rain the
water would flow down the roads which were
lower than the sidewalks and they had stepping stones for the pedestrians.
The ruts of the chariot
wheels are still clearly visible in between
the stepping stones.
